Auto Innovation Fund investment in Southern Ontario to fuel manufacturing jobs and innovation

The federal government today announced a major investment in Toyota Motors Manufacturing Canada in Southern Ontario that will fuel economic growth, spur competitiveness, create jobs and enhance innovation.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the funding at Toyota Motors’ Cambridge plant, accompanied by Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for Science and Technology and the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario, and Brad Duguid, Ontario's Minister of Economic Development and Innovation.
“The announcement shows a critical commitment to our vital automotive manufacturing sector, which creates high-quality, high-paying jobs for Ontarians and provides positive spin-off effects for the whole economy,” says CME President & CEO, Jayson Myers. “The investment will also help ensure greener, more environmentally friendly processes and products.”
As part of the Automotive Innovation Fund (AIF), this is part of the government’s $250-million, five-year program that supports strategic, large-scale research and development projects in the automotive sector.
