EPA launches new fracking rules
Published by Steve Coleman on May 04, 2012
The US Environmental Protection Agency has released guidelines for companies using diesel fuel to break natural gas out of shale.
While Congress passed a law in 2005 exempting fracking companies from the underground injection control (UIC) program, diesel used as a fracking medium wasn`t exempted.
Pending the end of a public consultation process, applications will continue to be looked at on an individual basis. What constitutes diesel will be referenced by six chemical abstract services registry numbers.
The comment period on the draft guidance is scheduled to last for 60 days after it is published in the Federal Register.
