Cigarette sales drop

Canadians smoked less in April.

Production numbers for the month say Canadian cigarette makers produced 1.7 billion cigarettes for the month, down 14.9 per cent from March.

While production was down, smokers also bought fewer cigarettes. The number sold fell 17.2 per cent to 1.5 billion, while closing inventories for the month showed the levels were 3.6 per cent higher at 2.6 billion cigarettes.
