US manufacturers more optimistic about future

Published by Steve Coleman on January 26, 2012

Three months have given US manufacturers a whole lot more optimism about their prospects.

The latest PwC US Manufacturing Barometer says manufacturers expect both domestic and international growth to continue in 2012, although most have lowered their forecasts for the year.

During the third quarter of 2011, only five per cent of businesses said they were optimistic about the country's economic prospects. The number rose to 30 per cent during the fourth quarter of 2011.

While a growing number of respondents said good things are on the horizon for the US this year, 57 per cent said they weren't sure what would happen.
