Beer drinkers expected to return to better brands

After drowning their sorrows with bargain-basement suds during the recession, a new report says beer drinkers are more likely to start switching back to premium brands over the next year.

An IBISWorld look at the brewing industry says that, despite a heavy round of consolidations in the brewing world, industry revenue is forecast to grow 2.4 per cent during 2012 to total $156.4 billion world-wide.

For the companies that have bubbled their way to the top, things are only expected to get better.
IBISWorld rates the level of industry concentration as medium, with the top four players accounting for about 50% of industry revenue. The top four players are Anheuser-Busch InBev, SABMiller plc, Heineken N.V and Carlsberg.

As the most-populous place, China has also become the world's biggest beer-drinking country in terms of sheer volume of suds.
