Manufacturing sales reach pre-recession levels on transport equipment strength

Published by Brad Fougere on April 15, 2014

Sales and unfilled orders of Ontario manufactured transportation equipment highlight February’s StatsCan manufacturing survey. Nationwide manufacturing sales increased to $51.2 billion (+1.4 per cent), the highest level since before the financial crisis began in 2008. The gains in Ontario, nearly half of which are accounted for by a 4.8 per cent rise in the transportation equipment market, totaled 2.9 per cent with sales of $23.3 billion for the month. Unfilled orders in transport equipment rose to $66.6 billion (+23.4 per cent) leading the monthly total of $91.6 billion (+ 16.5 per cent), the highest reported increase since the monthly series began in 1992. The nearly $100 billion in unfilled orders was also significantly higher (+79.6 per cent) than the low post-recession point of $51 billion in November 2009.
