Lumber mills hew fewer trees in June

Canada-wide, lumber mills dipped into their stockpiles in June.

While production decreased, Statistics Canada reports that mills shipping more have been usual for the month of June.

Monthly lumber production by sawmills decreased one per cent to 4,490.0 thousand cubic metres in June. Compared with the same month in 2010, lumber production decreased 2.3 per cent.

In June, sawmills shipped 4 923.0 thousand cubic metres of lumber, up 6.4% from May.
