Sweet news from the candy front...

McLean, Virginia-based candy maker Mars Inc. broke ground Aug. 23 on its first new U.S. manufacturing plant in 35 years.

The new $250 million facility will be built in Topeka, Kan. The company says the plant will create 200 fulltime jobs making M&M's and Snickers when it opens in 2013.

Mars' other U.S. production facilities include plants in Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, Pensylvania, New Jersey and Texas.
