Worldwide energy use expected to soar by 2035

Published by Steve Coleman on November 14, 2011

Worldwide use of renewable energy sources is expected to climb to 18 per cent of world electrical production by 2035.

The International Energy Agency's 2011 World Energy Outlook says most of that five per cent growth will occur in the European Union and China.

Power production in the renewable energy sector is also expected to steer away from hydroelectric projects and into other energy sources, such as wind power.

The IEA also predicts energy demand will increase 33 per cent between 2010 and 2035, with 90 per cent of the growth occurring in non-OECD countries. China's thirds for energy is also expected to be 70 per cent more than the US by 2035.
