Vale, union reach tentative agreement

Published by Steve Coleman on September 12, 2011

Production and maintenance employees in Thompson, Manitoba have reached a tentative new three-year agreement with production and maintenance staff.

The nickel miner announced Sept. 12 that it has reached a possible agreement with USW Local 6166 in the northern Manitoba town.

Union leaders were planning membership meetings in Thompson for Sept. 12 to present the company offer and recommend workers vote in favour of the deal.

A ratification vote has already been scheduled for Sept. 15, although no details on the actual agreement were being released until employees had their chance to hear what was being offered.
