Foxconn eyes robot labour force

Published by Steve Coleman on August 17, 2011

The rise of the robots is expected to continue in Chinese factories over the next few years.

Chinese manufacturing giant Foxconn has announced it plans to bring in more than a million robots over the next three years to replace human workers doing repetitive tasks.

The move is planned to help curtail rising labour costs and government regulation over maximum overtime hours and underage workers.

Worker groups say the move is a bad sign for their futures.
