Red tape commission finds plenty

Published by Steve Coleman on September 07, 2011

A federal commission has come up with at least one conclusion with its interim report - red tape, lots of it, does exist.

The Harper Government's Red Tape Reduction Commission has come up with several key findings early in the running. The list includes:

• The regulatory system demands greater accountability, clarity and transparency.
• Rules should be based on thorough assessments of risk.
• Regulators must balance managing risk and enabling business interests.
• Reform is a long-term activity and change must be ongoing.
