CME urges Ottawa to support future of Canadian aerospace

Published by Lacy Gillott on April 22, 2016

CME President and CEO, Jayson Myers, wrote to Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau on April 13th, 2016 to encourage federal investment support in bringing C Series aircraft to market.

I am writing on behalf of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters to encourage you and your Cabinet colleagues to respond favourably to Bombardier’s request for federal investment support in bringing its innovative C Series aircraft to market.

As you know, Canada is a strong contender in global aerospace.  We have a long history of technology leadership in the industry – from some of the earliest flights, to pioneering aviation in northern Canada, to the Avro Arrow, to our active participation on the international space station.  Today, Canada’s flight simulation industry is the largest in the world.  So too is our production of turboprop and helicopter engines.  We rank second in regional and business aircraft production and third in terms of all civil aircraft and engine production.  Our companies are leaders when it comes to aerospace materials, technologies, components, training, and services.  We manufacture helicopters, satellites, business and commercial aircraft.  We punch way above our weight.  We should be exceptionally proud.
