India to become Nissan production centre

Published by Steve Coleman on August 02, 2011

Nissan Motor's expansion plans for India include turning the country into a major production hub for neighbouring markets.

The Japanese automaker says it will export 20 per cent of the 55,000 mini vans it hopes to start producing next year through a joint venture with Ashok Leyland.

However, because the partnership doesn't have an Indian production facility, yet, it plans to build them and put them on the market through another joint venture, this one with Renault-Nissan Automotive.
