Apps won't fall far from the Apple

Published by Steve Coleman on January 09, 2012

Market share may shrink for Apple and Android in the app wars, but the two companies are still very much in control of the virtual marketplace.

Figures compiled by Strategy Analytics, Inc. say Apple's market share is expected to drop to 50 per cent in 2012 from 2011's 54 per cent share.

Android could lose two percentage points, falling from 27 per cent in 2011 to 25 per cent in 2012.

Several companies are competing to lay claim to the remaining quarter of available business.

The size of the industry is expected to grow more than five times in the coming year to more than $1 billion.
