Rugby makes list of economic hindrances

On top of a strong dollar and questions over where the world economy is headed, New Zealanders had one other hiccup to deal with in their August manufacturing numbers - the Rugby World Cup.

The island nation watched the BNZ-Business New Zealand Performance of Manufacturing Index drop to 50.8 for September, down from 52.7 in August. Anything above 50 indicates expansion.

While the country has watched the numbers slide over the last four months, distractions over New Zealand's national distraction had some respondents reporting two-to-one that their numbers have been down since the world championship tournament started in September.
