Canada joins tougher sanctions against Iran

Published by Steve Coleman on November 21, 2011

Canada has joined the growing list of countries putting tougher sanctions on Iran and its nuclear program.

The ban on new energy sector contracts won't apply to deals made before Nov. 22 this year. Both Canada and the United States are part of the latest round of sanctions.

Foreign Minister John Baird has also said Canada will block most transactions with Iran, except for Iranian-Canadians sending money home.
