CME welcomes Quebec’s investment in future of Canadian aerospace

Published by Brad Fougere on October 29, 2015

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters welcomes today’s announcement that the Government of Quebec will make a $1 billion (US) equity investment in Bombardier’s C-Series aircraft program.

“This investment will strengthen the competitive position of Canada’s leading aircraft manufacturer and contribute to the success of Bombardier’s leading edge C-Series program,” says CME President and CEO Jayson Myers. “It is a mark of confidence in the C-Series program and acknowledgement of the important contribution that Canada’s aerospace sector makes to our economy.

“The development of an advanced jetliner like the C-series is a long-term and highly costly venture, but one with significant economic benefits in Quebec and across Canada. It’s not unusual for governments around the world to make investments in technology projects, and aerospace projects in particular, where potential economic and innovation spinoffs are so great.

“Quebec’s partnership is important for Bombardier, but also for the more than 200 Canadian manufacturers, technology and services companies that are suppliers on the project. In production, the C-series program is expected to create 12,500 jobs across Canada.

"This is an investment in world-leading technology.  It’s an investment in the future.”
