Winnipeg plastics company secures US plant

A Winnipeg company's dreams of a US production facility came true March 9.

Acrylon Plastics Inc. announced March 19 that it sealed four weeks of talks with Rotonics Manufacturing Inc. for the Rotonics Maple Plain, Minnesota, custom rotomolding manufacturing plant.

The deal officially closed March 9. The production site already makes hollow molded parts and pieces for more than 150 of North America's leading transportation, military, floor care, construction and custom rotomolding customers, the company says.

"This acquisition achieves one of our strategic goals of a physical plant in the United States," said Craig McIntosh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Acrylon Plastics Inc. and American Custom Rotomolding LP in a news release. "After three previous attempts, we were able to complete this transaction very quickly when it became available.

"We are very pleased with the customers, employees and the plant. They have all come through a difficult period with the challenges that rotonics manufacturing over the past several years."

While no dollar value was released on the purchase, the deal included the 137,000 square foot Minnesota plant and its 94 employees.

As a result of the transaction, American Custom Rotomolding has purchased all inventories, accounts receivables, work in progress and ongoing customer delivery requirements for the former Rotonics Maple Plain manufacturing facility.

With the acquisition, Acrylon Plastics Inc. and its sister company, America Custom Rotomolding now operates four custom rotational molding plants in North America, as well as two plastics extrusion plants. The combined group has more than 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space and more than 350 employees.
