Global manufacturing numbers expected to drop

Published by Steve Coleman on September 19, 2011

Manufacturing production is expected to drop worldwide from last year, according to a United Nations report.

The UN says slower growth in developing countries will be behind a projected worldwide production growth increase of 5.1 per cent, down from last year's 5.3 per cent growth mark.

While their numbers will be down this year, developing economies are expected to continue outperforming industrialized countries. They'll end the year with 8.4 per cent MVA growth compared to last year's estimated 9.4 per cent.

China is expected to lead the way with an 11 per cent growth rate this year, versus 12.2 per cent in 2010.
