India plans to make Chennai the next Motor City

The Indian state of Tamil Nadu says it plans to become the world's next big automobile manufacturing hub.

The state capital of Chennai is already home to several international automakers, including Ford, Hyundai and Renault-Nissan.

"Tamil Nadu is No.1 in (manufacture) of automobile and auto components. We aim to make Chennai and other parts of the state a global hub in this regard," Chief Minister Jayalalithaa told the state Assembly.
