Government of Canada releases manufacturing sector strategy document

Published by Brad Fougere on July 30, 2015

Today, FedDev Ontario Minister Gary Goodyear released the Strengthening Canada's Manufacturing Sector publication, which outlines the Federal government's national manufacturing strategy. The Government's strategy aligns with the key priorities of CME's Manufacturing our Future action plan.

In fact, 22 of the 28 actions the Government references are a direct result the collective efforts of CME, the Canadian Manufacturing Coalition and our members, of whom several are quoted throughout the document.

“Through Economic Action Plan 2015 and our partnerships with organizations such as CME, our Government is committed to supporting Ontario’s manufacturers. Roundtables, such as the one we are hosting today, give us the opportunity to connect with our manufacturers, to understand their needs and to work towards creating a thriving manufacturing sector and prosperous communities,"  said The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for FedDev Ontario "The publication released today details how the Government’s suite of policies – low taxes, global trade opportunities, skills training and strategic investments in new technologies – have helped Canadian manufacturers expand their existing footprint.”

Not only has CME influenced specific actions of the Government, the general themes promoted fit into most of the organziations' priority areas – tax competitiveness, opening new markets, promoting skills training and advanced technologies and R&D. Alongside the Government's strategy, this quick summary that compares their strategy to our recommendations show's that CME's leadership truly does make a difference.
