Published by Brad Fougere on April 04, 2014

A youth employment boost in March saw Canada’s unemployment rate drop 0.1 per cent to 6.9 per cent but the youth rate remained unchanged as more workers that age entered the workforce. Employment jumped 33, 000 for 15-24 year-olds while the rest of the workforce changed negligibly.

British Columbia and New Brunswick saw the bulk of the hires. In BC the unemployment rate fell to 5.8 per cent while in NB the rate was steady at 7.6 per cent. Across the country rates ranged from 12.5 per cent in Nunavut to 4.5 % in Saskatchewan.
