Airline begins Vancouver, Shanghai cargo runs

Published by Steve Coleman on August 30, 2011

Canadian exporters now have an airborne pipeline to mainland China.

A new air cargo service run by China Southern Airlines (CSA) between Vancouver International Airport and Shanghai is expected to create 40 full-time jobs in the airline industry.

CSA already operates a passenger service between Vancouver and China. The airline started carrying people June 15.

The air cargo carrier has been running from the airport four times a week carrying seafood and heavy equipment. Proponents have set a goal of 441,000 tonnes of air cargo for 2020 for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.

They carried 228,000 tonnes in 2010.
