Renewable energy hits new milestone

Renewable energy hit a new high water mark last year.

A PriceWaterHouse Coopers report says the dollar value of global renewable energy deals reached $53.3 billion last year, compared to the $38.2 billion sold in 2010.

Energy efficiency, solar and wind power overtook water-driven turbines for the first time and did it at a seven-to-one margin.

The alternatives are expected to be a solid medium-term investment for world governments, but won't make up a majority of electricity generation or savings.
