BC plastics company gets US owners

Published by Steve Coleman on March 12, 2012

A US-based packaging company has acquired a BC plastics firm with plans to expand its reach into the Pacific Northwest.

Alpha Packaging, based in St. Louis, MO, has closed a deal with Surrey, BC's Vanga Products Inc. to bring the 60-employee company under its umbrella.

While financial terms haven't been disclosed, Alpha Packaging makes HDPE and PET bottles and jars for the food and beverage, household chemical, personal care, pharmaceutical and nutritional markets.
Vanga Products went on the market after founder Gerry VanGaalen decided it was time to retire from his company.

Alpha Packaging is owned by New York-based private equity company Irving Place Capital. The firm purchased Alpha in September 2010.
