Production up for tobacco companies

Canadian cigarette makers had a busy August.

Statistics Canada reports domestic cigarette manufacturers produced 2.1 billion cigarettes in August, up 12.5 per cent from July.

The total number of domestic cigarettes sold increased by 9.8 per cent to 2 billion, while closing inventories increased 4.5 per cent to 2.4 billion cigarettes by the end of the month.
