Pre-clearance agreement will help Canadian manufacturers and exporters

Published by Brad Fougere on March 16, 2015

The following statement was issued by Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters President and CEO Jayson Myers regarding the pre-clearance agreement between Canada and the United States March 16.

“CME is pleased to hear that the government is moving forward with the expanded pre-clearance agreement to streamline clearance of goods across the Canada/US border under the Beyond the Border agreement.

"Despite significant progress by Canada and the US under the BTB, our members continue to face significant challenges in moving people and goods across the congested border.

"The expanded pre-clearance agreement should help move goods across our borders much more efficiently and securely.

"At the same time, we continue to urge the governments to continue to aggressively pursue full implementation of the original BTB agreement signed in 2011 – especially the most commercially meaningful measures of single-window electronic customs reporting, harmonized trusted trader programs and streamlined movement of business professionals.”
