Canada, US to extend softwood lumber deal

Published by Steve Coleman on January 23, 2012

Canada and the US have agreed to a two-year extension on the current softwood lumber agreement.

The trade agreement was originally set to expire in Oct. 12, 2013. Rather than negotiate during a presidential election year, the two countries have agreed to keep the current agreement active until 2012.

Reportedly, both sides also say the extension will be enough time to renegotiate the existing deal.
