Toyota to boost Ontario production

Published by Steve Coleman on March 28, 2012

Toyota says it plans to spend $80 million on its Woodstock, Ont. assembly plant, a decision the company says will create 400 new jobs.

The Japanese automaker says it plans to boost production of the RAV4 from its current 150,000 vehicles a year to 200,000 annually.

The new jobs will be in addition to the estimated 2,000 workers who already collect a pay cheque at the plant.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. says sales have increased 31 per cent year-over-year in February since last year's Japanese earthquake and tsunami and flooding in Thailand hampered production. Last month, the vehicle maker says it sold 12,384 Toyota, Lexus and Scion units.
