Published by Frank Defalco on November 27, 2013

The Global Markets Action Plan released by International Trade Minister Ed Fast is a strategy thatPat d’Entremont, Partner of NiCom IT Solutions Ltd. and Chair of CME NS; Ann Janega, CME NS VP; Minister Ed Fast; Karen Oldfield, Pres. and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority; and Tom Ruth, Pres. & CEO Halifax Stanfield International Airportresponds to the needs of Canadian exporters, according to Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.

"The Global Markets Action Plan aims both at helping Canadian exporters build on their business success in traditional markets like the United States and Europe and supporting them as they develop new business markets," says CME President & CEO Jayson Myers.

The plan helps align the priorities of Canadian business, both large and small, to the international business services offered by Government departments and agencies like the Trade Commissioner Service and Export Development. It will provide the tools exporters need to succeed as they look for new customers and new supply chains.

"The strategy reflects the priorities of business," says Myers, who was a member of Minister Fast's expert advisory panel.

"We were clear that the Government needs to be agile in setting priorities and aligning resources to help business needs," says Myers. "It is good to see ongoing consultations, with business actively involved in goal setting and evaluating progress in our trade support programs and our supporting trade policies.

The plan is based on measurable objectives. Its success will ultimately be judged by results - on the growth of Canadian exports and investment in international markets. “I am confident that it will be instrumental in supporting business growth and jobs opportunities across Canada."
