Vermont senators look for stiffer penalties for fake maple syrup

Published by Steve Coleman on October 31, 2011

A group of US Senators hope to put anyone caught selling fake maple syrup into a sticky situation.

Vermont's two senators are working on improvements to the Maple Agriculture Protection and Law Enforcement (MAPLE) Act that would stick anyone cooking up fraudulent maple syrup into the cooler longer.

Vermont's harvest last year was valued at $30 million, says an Associated Press news story.
