EDC helps boost Canadian exports

Published by Steve Coleman on February 27, 2012

Despite a not-so-great year for international trade, Canadian companies boosted their business dealings with the rest of the world by 10 per cent in 2011.

Export Development Canada says 22 per cent more companies that tapped into EDC funding to develop their export markets last year, boosting the number to 7,787 getting extra financing.

Of that, 26 per cent of the growth was to help Canadians tap into emerging markets, especially Asia. Exports helped by EDC increased almost 60 per cent in 2011, accounting for 24 per cent of all of the trade EDC helped facilitate.
