Mid-market enterprise the backbone of corporate Canada: HSBC

Published by Brad Fougere on March 04, 2015

Canada's manufacturing mid-market enterprises (MMEs) represent a 19.2 per cent share of the $221 billion contribution from approximately 6000 firms, a new report from HSBC Canada released Mar 4 said. Canada's MME sector is the eighth largest of the 15 countries polled; using publicly available data accounting for over 116,000 MMEs across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Americas.

"Mid-market firms are in many ways the unsung heroes of the global economy — not large enough to influence government policy, but too big to benefit from incentives and support afforded to smaller companies," said Linda Seymour , Executive Vice President and Head of Commercial Banking, HSBC Bank Canada.

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters is the country's largest industry association representing manufacturing and exporting firms. More than 80 per cent of our 10,000 member firms are small- to medium-sized businesses for whom we advocate and represent nationally at the federal, provincial and municipal government.
