Bank of Canada to start distributing new $50 bills

Published by Steve Coleman on March 21, 2012

The old grocery store question ‘Will that be paper or plastic?' takes on a whole new meaning March 26.

That's the day the Bank of Canada plans to begin circulating the new $50 polymer bill through automated banking machines. The $50 bill is the first denomination the bank plans to put into circulation.

The new plastic money features an image of the Arctic research vessel CCGS Amundson on the back of the note. A news conference has been planned for the Canadian Coast Guard Base in Victoria, BC for the unveiling.
