October good month for manufacturing: Statistics Canada

Published by Frank Defalco on December 18, 2013

Manufacturers had their best month since May 2012 according Statistics Canada’s October 2013 monthly survey on manufacturing.

The sales increase of 1 per cent was mainly due to the food industry, although, sales did advance in 13 of 21 sectors.

Quebec lead the way with 2.1 per cent sales increase and other provinces also did well, Alberta posted a 2.7 per cent increase, and New Brunswick manufacturing sales were up 7.7 per cent. But lower sales in Ontario, down 0.4 per cent, offset a portion of the overall gains for October.

“October manufacturing sales increases indicate a momentum we feel will continue into the New Year,” said Jayson Myers, President and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.
