CME joins international business organizations in call to World Trade Organization

Published by Brad Fougere on July 08, 2014

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters joined with global business leaders today in addressing the World Trade Organization to endorse the Environmental Goods Agreement (EGA).

"We urge governments to make the swift negotiation of an ambitious international agreement to eliminate tariffs on a broad range of enviornmental good a priority," the release said.

"Negotiating an agreement to remove trade barriers on environmental goods in a timely fashion will further the growth of a booming and essential sector," said Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters President and CEO Jayson Myers. "The agreement must be inclusive and ready for implementation upon signing to build on the strong work of trade officials who have negotiated to date."

The letter (available here) was signed by numerous domestic and international business and trade organizations including the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association, the Canadian Electricity Association, the American National Association of Manufacturers, as well as organizations from Asia, Europe and Africa.
