Conservatives say "no" to tax hikes

Published by Steve Coleman on August 12, 2011

Treasury Board President Tony Clement says the ruling Conservatives plan to keep the ship sailing in the current heading.

He ruled out calls from the opposition on Aug. 12 to reconsider higher taxes and a slower return to a balanced federal budget.

"With our Government's strong leadership we have helped Canada maintain a steady course and have weathered the economic storm better than most of our international counterparts-and we have done so without raising taxes," Clement said." Our responsible approach to deficit reduction is one of the reasons why our economy is creating jobs."
