CNC Trainign Program

The CNC Training Program is helping to tackle a skills shortage in the Ontario manufacturing industry by connecting talented and hardworking youth with manufacturing companies for much needed positions as CNC Machinists, Setup, Operators and Programmers.

How it Works
1. Interested youth applicants are screened by Manpower. Those who have the required personal characteristics, aptitudes and attitudes are presented to participating employers for interviews.
2. Participating employers interview screened candidates and hire the selected candidate(s). Existing employees are also eligible to enroll in the program provided they meet eligibility requirements.
3. Employers pay participation fees for each trainee they hire/enroll.
4. Hired trainee(s) attend(s) and complete(s) classroom training while being paid by their employer.
5. Trainee(s) complete(s) shop-floor learning and all remaining tests at their place of employment. This is required to complete the program and receive Certification.
6. Program provides a Monitor/Coach to assist the company and their trainee in the workplace.
7. Employer receives a grant payment for each certified trainee.
8. Successfully trained employees continue their employment with the participating company (at the discretion of their employer).

Why it Works
This industry-led initiative is a different model for learning and training, providing an outcomes-based approach that offers tremendous benefits to companies. Rather than having to find good candidates on their own, employers can rely on the Ontario Manufacturing Learning Consortium (OMLC) to do the searching and screening for them. Initial results from the program have been very strong, producing trained employees in an accelerated time frame, which is attracting the attention of more companies looking to address their own shortage of CNC Machinists, Setup, Operators and Programmers.
