Open Doors - Safe Youth

Awareness of the importance of Health & Safety to the young worker

CME Ontario will bring together the young worker and manufacturing community to showcase the importance of health and safety in the workplace. Plant visits bring the young worker and teachers face to face with the health and safety aspects within the manufacturing business environment.

Awareness for the young worker is paramount in instilling early health and safety practices among young workers. Awareness for educational entities will complement what is already being taught in the classroom around health and safety.

Introduce the student to a generic definition of competency and how it impacts their work life. Establish an understanding of what proper training entails; I show you, we do it together, you perform under observation. The repeatable basis is the introduction to a culture of working safely and not taking short cuts.

"Competency is the safely demonstrated completion of a task to a predefined standard on a repeatable basis."

Right to Question

Once the student has an understanding of competency, then we can build the confidence to question when asked to perform a new task or function. The student should feel no reluctance in asking; is it safe, can you demonstrate, or stating that they are not comfortable with the new task.

Fit For Duty

Students will be introduced to the seven contributors to Fit for Duty and the warning signs that they or a co-worker may not be fit to safely perform.
